Hôtel Grand Parc

We ended up here for five nights after our motorhome broke down, while we waited for repairs. The staff were a big help, and the room stayed warm and quiet. The shutters are great, though I wish the shower got hotter. There are a few places to eat and a bar nearby, plus two supermarkets within walking distance. Good value for the location.

The room was so dark and quiet behind those shutters, and the new mattress was really comfortable. I slept for 11 hours, better than I do at home. Clean, practical room, great bathroom, and the best value around here. I’d definitely recommend it if breakfast isn’t a big deal for you ;-)

Our receptionist was helpful, and everything was spotlessly clean. We had a balcony looking out over the park and the mountains, though the main road runs between. The hotel is near Gex centre, with several restaurants and bars just a short walk away. There’s the Vesuvio restaurant on the ground floor, which looked fine, but we wanted to try somewhere else. Parking is free in the lot next door. There’s also parking under the hotel, though I’m not sure if that one costs extra. A nice, simple hotel at a reasonable price. Recommended.

We’d booked a week and left the next morning after spending the evening searching for another hotel. It cost us a lot of money. Avoid at any cost. The bathroom was awful. The website showed a glass shower enclosure, but we got a dirty curtain on a crooked rail. The shower floor was almost level with the tiles, and the lukewarm water trickled from the head, ran down the curtain, and flooded the whole bathroom. The grout had mould in it. The toilet was so close to the rail for disabled guests that I could only sit at an angle. The rest of the room wasn’t much better. It smelled strongly of tobacco and cheap motel air freshener, despite being listed as non-smoking. There were dirty smears and some damage on the walls. I could hear everything from the corridor and other rooms. The dressing mirror was mounted so low that I could only see myself from my feet to my waist. There was no staff on duty Saturday afternoon, so our key was left with a manager at a nearby restaurant. We’d booked a room on the fourth floor with a view, but were given one on the first instead. And the car park is incredibly hard to use. Getting out took me at least ten reversing manoeuvres. You need to be a virtuoso driver, ideally with someone outside guiding you.
