Le Hüb Grenoble Hotel

The room was spacious, and the location is convenient, a short walk from the train station and near the tram line B stop. The evening receptionist was very helpful. But breakfast started a bit late, and the receptionist handling it on Thursday morning (30th Nov) was rude with guests and didn’t act professionally. He seemed bothered by having to do anything, like he’d rather be elsewhere. Quite a few guests shared that impression. Update: It’s disappointing that the owner’s reply didn’t acknowledge the unprofessional behaviour of one staff member, which several guests had noticed. My comments also gave credit for the good parts. It’s puzzling that feedback clearly intended to encourage improvement, which would benefit the hotel, got this response. If customer experiences and feedback aren’t valued, we’ll advise our host not to use this venue again.

The hostel was calm and pleasant, and I felt safe there. Everything else was good, but climbing up to the upper bed was a bit difficult. The design seemed more about looks than comfort, and I bruised my knee on the plank where you have to put it while climbing. A kitchen would have made the stay better, since the hostel doesn’t have one.

The room was below what I’d expect from a 3-star place, especially at a 4-star price during those dates, and the toilet was dirty. Reception and the front door both close from 10pm to 8am. That’s only a problem if you arrive late without entry instructions, which is exactly what happened to me. I got there at 11pm, the door was shut, and no one answered the number provided with my reservation. After half an hour outside, I persuaded a woman entering the hotel to let me in. Then I saw my room key sitting at the reception desk. I left before reception opened the next morning for early meetings. When I returned around 11pm, my key had been deactivated and I was locked out again with nobody to contact. The next day reception told me they had turned it off because I hadn’t paid yet, even though checkout was still a few days away and they had my credit card for the booking. Surreal. Edit September 25th: The property’s response contains a lot of claims that are hard to believe and makes this stay even worse. I received no emails or calls. The receptionist had actually told me they had no way to contact me, so who should I believe? The only accurate part is that they never warned me or sent the entry codes before my late arrival. They also never said payment had to be made right away or the room key could be disabled. I’ve never seen that at a hotel. Both nights, another person was in the same situation as me.

The price was very good, and the location on a campus near the train station and subway is convenient. But the place needs better management. Our 2bedroom apartment wasn’t cleaned well and was missing basics: one small bar of soap, two half-rolls of toilet paper, and a single garbage bag. We were expected to take our own trash out or pay 30euros. Getting it downstairs meant using multiple elevators and going to a very smelly basement garbage room. The shower head was just lying at the bottom of the tub and couldn’t be hung up. There was hair on the sheets too. When we asked for towels, soap, toilet paper, and help with that, they brought towels, but the young woman delivering them said she wasn’t understanding me and left. There may have been a language barrier. It seems student-run and could work for students visiting. We’re a family of five and are used to better hotels, so this wasn’t good for anyone over 30yo, in my view. You get what you pay for. It could be a good place with better management.
