Best Western The Wish Versailles

We came for a nearby wedding, and the hotel worked really well for what we needed. We spent a couple of hot days in the pool and had dinner outside one evening. The menu was limited, but the food was well prepared, and there’s a great Portuguese restaurant within walking distance. It seems geared towards business guests. Breakfast was a full buffet with decent machines for espresso, cafe au lait, and cappuccino. We enjoyed the croissants, fresh fruit, and fromage blanc, and there were eggs, plenty of breakfast meats, cheese, and cereal. We had all we needed.

The whole experience was awful. Most of the hotel staff didn’t speak a word of English, which seems like basic knowledge for this kind of job. The food and room were both mediocre, and there wasn’t much to do nearby. On weekdays, the bus service stops running after 20:30. I can’t recommend it.

Back today, and the air con has been fixed, so I’m much happier. The room was cleaned and the breakfast was good, both a big improvement on yesterday. The bar still has a lousy selection, and there are no English-language TV channels, but things were much better. Well done, staff.

The room was clean and modern, with a big, comfortable bed. But the air con wasn’t working. We told reception, and they said they’d send someone to look at it. We explained that we had a newborn with us and the room was extremely hot even with the window open. Babies overheating is known to be dangerous, but they didn’t seem to care much. Our baby was so uncomfortable that they couldn’t sleep at all. No one came to check the air con, and no alternative room was offered. Extremely disappointing.
