Mont Blanc Lodge Hauteluce

It’s a tiny place, with just two staff and around 4-6 tables, but the details are really well considered. You can watch the kitchen at work, and the quiet, minimal decor makes it feel cozy. I don’t know much about wine pairings, though I enjoyed each glass on its own. There were lots of little surprises. The Norwegian and fera fish dishes with herb granita were both very good. My favorites, though, were the white asparagus with Parma ham, the butternut soup with mustard ice cream, and a clever, beautifully done cauliflower and coconut milk dessert.

The food and service here are in a league of their own. We first came in 2019, a year after Benoît and Hélène opened the restaurant, and since then we’ve made regular summer visits from England. Benoît’s Michelin star came as no surprise, and I feel another one could be on the way. This winter we stayed in Les Saisies specifically so we could visit Auberge Mont Blanc. It was well worth the trip.

We had a lovely dinner at Montblanc Restaurant and would happily return on another visit to Hauteluce. It’s a cozy little restaurant with a very appealing interior, and the friendly staff were attentive throughout. The menu changes with the seasons, using regional ingredients in carefully put-together dishes. There’s a good wine list, from moderately priced bottles to higher-end choices, and you can pick a 3- to 6-course menu. Merci beaucoup!
