Le Manoir De Port-cros

The evening ended with staff swearing at us in French as we left. When we told them we understood, one of them cursed back at us. It was a shocking way to treat paying customers. Earlier, our group of about 11, family and friends celebrating a holiday, had been given one menu with set prices, then presented with another menu carrying higher prices. Desserts arrived without us ordering them, apparently because staff assumed they were part of a set menu, and we were charged 15€ each. When we objected, the waiter rudely dropped a new bill on the table and hurried off. We then saw that the revised bill had higher appetizer prices, seemingly to make up for the desserts. We felt cheated. The food was average, without the flavor or creativity we expected, and the prices were far too high for what we received. It felt as though the restaurant was using its location and reputation to overcharge tourists. Staff were arrogant and dismissive throughout. The view and setting are beautiful, but they couldn't make up for such a disappointing experience. We had come hoping for a nice dinner and good service.

We felt very welcome here. The owners were friendly and flexible, and happily accommodated everything we asked for. I'm sure we'll come back at least once. The manor sits in a huge park on a beautiful island, with lavender, lots of palm trees, and a meadow where two donkeys roam. There's a pool, plus a dining terrace overlooking the bay and sunset. The place has a lovely, romantic feel, and the rooms are furnished in an old-fashioned style. The meals were exceptionally tasty, and the portions were so large that breakfast kept me going until mid-afternoon. The only downside was the price of the food. Restaurants in the village serve comparable quality for much less.

The location was pleasant, but the rude and impatient waitstaff, who were also hard to find, made the meal a letdown. The food didn't match its promising descriptions, and the prices were far too high. We were served a dessert we hadn't asked for and then charged for it, while the restaurant also raised the price of our starters. I left disappointed and wouldn't recommend eating here. There are better options for an enjoyable meal.

The place has plenty of charm, though my room and bathroom were tiny and not very comfortable or well equipped. I also found the prices unjustifiably high, for both the rooms and the menu. I didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but the lights beneath the sea-facing pergola looked much too bright and cold, especially after sunset. They took away from the atmosphere.
