The location is hard to beat for a wedding or party at the Bambouseraie. It’s just a five-minute walk along a wooded path. But the accommodation itself fell far short of what I’d expect at this price. We paid €720 for two nights, yet four of the six of us were cold through the night in mid-May. There was just one cheap 160cm IKEA fleece blanket, costing €3.99, and no spares in any of the three bedrooms. If you’re under 1.60m, it’s 25 degrees at night, and you find the rest worth €360 a night, perhaps that won’t bother you. I’d rather see the owners spend some of that money on two proper blankets, perhaps 100% wool and made in France by Brun de Vian-Tiran, 50km from the gîte, instead of buying 180 top-quality throws like the ones already provided. The rest had problems too: strobe-like lights, a toilet that took 30 minutes to refill, and a manager who denied the issues and wasn’t helpful.

We booked this cottage because the reviews gave us confidence, but maybe those guests were very lucky, or perhaps they weren’t fully honest. For six adults, it simply doesn’t work. The bunk bed mattresses don’t fit the frames, and the stairs to the bedrooms make it unsuitable for children. During our stay the only usable toilet was upstairs, and it struggled badly to empty and refill. At the end of May, nights were still chilly and the bedrooms got much colder, but there weren’t enough duvets. One room was equipped well; in the others, all we had were thin IKEA throws or bedspreads. The owner said an electrician had come the day before, but the living room lights still flickered like a strobe, enough to be a possible epilepsy risk. We had to stay outdoors, mosquitoes and all, or use candles. The wedding venue is walkable by a path through brambles and nettles, so wear closed shoes and long trousers. Being close to it doesn’t excuse an uncomfortable, barely habitable place. Booking directly costs 30% more than using a platform, and when we pointed that out the owner showed no goodwill. For the price of a night here, a tent and sleeping bag would be more comfortable and even better located.

The bedding and other amenities were far too basic for the price, and the cottage doesn’t have enough room for six adults despite what’s advertised. The toilet also didn’t work properly and made our stay uncomfortable. We raised these issues but were offered no goodwill gesture. I found the place disappointing and expensive, and wouldn’t recommend it. Better to look elsewhere for decent accommodation.

Even with a wedding venue just a few steps away, I’d avoid staying here. For such an exorbitant price, there were no blankets, the beds were uncomfortable, the toilets and lights didn’t work properly, and the stairs felt dangerous. The owner denied the problems and came across as dishonest, as if taking our money was all that mattered.
