We made an honest mistake and booked the wrong date by one day. We contacted the hotel within an hour of booking, as soon as we spotted it, but the woman running it refused a refund and emailed us in a patronising way about not being careful. I understand the error was ours, but the response showed no respect or empathy. She was rude and unhelpful, and I wouldn't recommend the place. Don't make a mistake unless you're ready for a silly, unprofessional response.
The room itself was clean, the bedding decent, and the bathroom spacious. But we were in the middle of a heatwave, and there was no air conditioning. We didn't dare suggest it to our host after everything else. Breakfast, which gets a lot of praise online, was dismal: two half-baguettes of par-baked bread for three people, with individual portions of industrial butter and jams whose homemade status was unclear. There were no local products, and the fruit looked as if it had been sitting out for weeks. When I asked for another half-baguette, the host replied coldly, “Pfff, normally it’s two half-baguettes for three people.” We ate quickly just to get out of that unpleasant place. The trouble started when we arrived. The owner made us feel like children being scolded for doing something stupid. She seemed displeased that we’d come by bike and that a taxi was bringing our luggage ahead of us. Our driver had tried calling her several times the week before but couldn’t get through. Even after we apologized, she gave us a long lecture about how you can’t trust anyone these days, and how people have gone to prison for collecting strangers’ luggage. Other places nearby were full, or we’d have got back on our bikes and left. The decor inside was bizarre and oppressive, though taste is subjective. When we asked about nearby restaurants, she simply said everything in the village was closed on Mondays. We managed to call a taxi to Saint-Marcellin instead. Our driver, Andréen, was very friendly and gave us useful advice, a welcome change after such a disappointment. We’ve never had such a disastrous stay at any tourist accommodation. The owner was inhospitable, austere, and rude, and the establishment seems to be in decline. A place to avoid.
The room was in a lovely old building that used to be a drying shed, and we were made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was perfect too. A perfect place to stop during our vacation. Thank you, and see you again soon!
We had a perfect welcome, and the owner is lovely. The rooms were clean, too. Breakfast was served at a shared table, with homemade jam and fresh fruit from the area. What a beautiful building. Thank you.
We only spent one night there, so there wasn't time to try the pool or enjoy the many games and books available. The welcome was warm even though we arrived late, and breakfast was very good. I'd recommend it.
