Mermoz Paris Le Bourget Hotel

I’m an airline pilot and spend three to four nights a week in hotels, so I know what I’m talking about. This place was one of the worst I’ve stayed in: dirty, smelly, noisy, and out of date. The owner isn’t Ibis, it’s some kind of franchise. I got in at six in the morning after flying and asked not to be disturbed. I even had the “do not disturb” tag on the door, but they didn’t care. If I’d read the reviews, I wouldn’t have booked. Stay away from that horrible cave.

The room was a good size and nice, with a comfortable bed. I slept very well, then had a great breakfast before we left with smiles on our faces. We arrived late, but a staff member was there to welcome us, explain what we needed to know, and get us on our way to the room without fuss. A nice stay, and I’d recommend the hotel to others.

The staff were friendly, but I’d asked for a non-smoking room and was put in a smoking one. The furniture had burn marks and the room smelled pretty bad. It needs a refurb, especially the bathroom, which felt decades old, had built-up dirt, and had faulty fittings. I could only choose one kind of pillow, which drove me a bit mad after several poor nights of sleep. Breakfast was generally okay, but the milk had gone off several days in a row, and the attendant didn’t seem to think that was a problem.

The only real catch was the scrap yard behind the hotel. It starts up at 7am, so I wouldn’t expect much sleep after that. Otherwise, the staff were very helpful. They arranged takeaways to be delivered and ordered taxis for us, and there were free hot drinks in the lobby. Breakfast was still worth having, although the menu was reduced due to covid and the self-service cereals and similar items had been removed. The beds were comfy, and the rooms were clean and tidy for a very reasonable price. Each room has a comfy chair that folds out into a single bed, and some rooms have connecting doors.
