Le Môle

The restaurant and its setting are cute and relaxing, and the mussels are worth ordering. The food was good, but I didn’t think it justified the price. Service also wasn’t very professional: it took a long time, and things were forgotten, even though it wasn’t especially busy. I’d rate it 2.5 if I could.

The location was great and the apartment was okay. The staff were horrible, unfriendly and no help at all.

We’d booked double room number 3 on the courtyard side for a midwinter stay, when temperatures were below freezing. We decided to leave and found another room elsewhere. The deposit was kept, so we got back about 70% of what we’d paid, and we did appreciate that gesture. The main issue was the window. It was wooden, single-glazed and had bayonet fittings, in keeping with an 18th-century building, but the putty was missing around the glass and the panes were loose. Air came in around them, and condensation had formed on the inside. The shutters didn’t close properly and looked as if they might fall off. With a radiator directly below the window, we were even concerned frost might form inside. There was no spare duvet in the wardrobe, just a light blanket on the bed, which didn’t seem enough for that weather. We felt the windows were a safety concern too. We had to choose between finding somewhere else to stay and driving the 2.5 hours home. We left the establishment and managed to find other accommodation. The staff were unsympathetic to us, though we recognize that reviews on various websites often praise the location, cleanliness and friendly staff. In our view, this very old building should be avoided in winter until the insulation is improved and the windows and doors are secured.

The restaurant had a varied menu and excellent food, and the waiter was very friendly. We were warmly welcomed at both the shop and the hotel. Le Mole is also well placed for the sea, shops, the port and its evening entertainment. The hotel’s different rental options are pleasant, with tasteful furnishings and decor. We spent a week there and will definitely do it again.
