La Table des Fontaines

A lovely setting right in the city, and the prices are nowhere near what you’d pay at the local or Parisian “gastronomic” places. The wine was the one letdown, but the meal was a real treat. Isabelle told me everything was made with fresh ingredients, and I believe her. The food and the friendly service were both great, with flavors that are hard to describe but seriously tasty. Thanks again to the hosts. Highly recommended!

The setting was a real letdown: the terrace looked dated and had lots of broken bulbs, and the dining room wasn’t set up or lit either. We ate without enjoying it, and the food didn’t help. The “Royal” couscous we had to choose from the limited menu was bland and basic, nothing royal about it for €25. We’d booked for Saturday evening after looking online. The wine list only had Spanish wine, which I don’t mind at all, but they brought us a 2005 instead of the 2012. It was undrinkable, and the replacement was barely better. We’d been drawn in by the attractive website and very flattering recent reviews. With a 9.9/10 rating for a restaurant in La Roche-Posay, it’s hard not to wonder if those reviews were manipulated. We’ll forget this place quickly.

I’ve been a loyal customer of the Val de Creuse restaurant for a long time, so I know its cuisine and service well. It’s shameful to criticize a place that’s known for both. Signing up just to leave one negative review, or trying to undermine the work of people striving for quality, is shameful too. Some critics seem to have no idea what that effort means. And I completely agree with the response. Congratulations on it.

A warm welcome, Tuscan wine, and a chicken tagine with a fabulous smell of spices. A restaurant I’d recommend. Thank you for lunch.
