Five stars for JORDAN. I had trouble with my reservation, and the evening/night receptionist spoke no English while I speak no French. Luckily Jordan was there and helped me out even though his shift had ended. I loved your tattoo and really appreciated your big heart, hospitality and communication skills. Hope you get a raise, God bless you! The other staff were very friendly too.

As a solo traveler, I liked the friendly atmosphere at Auberge de Jeunesse de La Rochelle. It was easy to chat with people over breakfast, and the dorms were clean. The marina is just steps away, and the place is budget-friendly and well located. It felt like a relaxed gathering spot for travelers, and would suit solo adventurers, backpacking friends or families after a simple stay with some charm.

The food is solid, and you can walk to the city without much trouble. The beach is about 10-15 minutes away, so the location is great.

I stayed in a very quiet four-person, women-only dorm. The room was clean and had that hostel feel. The woman at reception was helpful with check-in, check-out and renting a locker. I felt I got good value for what I paid, and would definitely stay again. Getting there from Gare de La Rochelle is quite easy. Bus 03 or 04 toward Les Minimes leaves from in front of Gare de La Rochelle. Get off at Le Lac, then it's about a 5-7 minute walk to Auberge de Jeunesse La Rochelle. The hostel is conveniently close to the port, and if you like sightseeing, you can find yourself walking to la centre-ville without even noticing.

Our private double room was spacious and good value, with the bonus of a shared balcony. The hostel looks a little run-down outside, but inside it was clean, if basic. The bathroom in the room was extremely small, and towel service would be a welcome improvement. Yélo bikes were the easiest way into town. There's also a bus stop nearby for longer trips or getting to the train station with luggage. Staff interactions were efficient and pleasant.
