Brit Hotel Confort Alexia La Souterraine

For a short visit, this hotel works well for a night or two. It’s dated rather than modern, but functional and clean, and not all the staff speak English. The room was tidy, with warm bedding, a great bed, a hot shower with good pressure, free soap, and tea and coffee. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and there was lots of parking. We’d booked a superior room with breakfast and arrived late, so used digital check-in. The booking.com reservation number wasn’t recognized, but a call to the service number got it sorted quickly. We’d stay here again for a short trip.

The rooms really disappointed me because they weren’t clean. Keep your shoes on, and don’t look too closely at the carpet if you want to avoid unpleasant surprises. The organization was mediocre too. If you’re planning breakfast, don’t rush to check out. When they say it starts at 7:30, that’s when an employee arrives to begin setting everything up.

The food is the standout here. Breakfast is a perfectly fine traditional continental spread with what you need, and the restaurant food is exceptional. The chef is part of the family that runs the hotel, and you can tell in the cooking. Samson also gave great waiter service and beer recommendations. The hotel and staff were superb, and we left pleasantly surprised. It’s near a main road, as another review says, but sits half a mile away and you can’t hear traffic with the window shut. I suspect it wasn’t full when I visited, so I can’t say what peak season is like. The air conditioning worked really well, unlike many chain hotels in the uk. Rooms are basic, with no tea or coffee facilities, so perhaps guests could use a coffee machine when the restaurant is closed. The shower was excellent, the room was serviced, and the service was excellent. Two pillows per customer would be a basic improvement, though not a deal breaker. Would I come back? Absolutely, without question. I’ll be back later this year.

The restaurant food was great, though service there could have been better and a few menu items weren’t available. Reception staff were very friendly. The hotel is modern and on the edge of town, near a main road and some industrial units. It has a lift, restaurant, swimming pool and plenty of secure parking. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet, with air conditioning.
