Le gîte du jardin

We'd planned to stay from February 20th to March 12th, 2025, but left on March 1st. The host was understanding, tried to help us, and refunded the nights we didn't use. The welcome was warm, with dinner, fruit, and breakfast provided. The bathrooms were clean, Wi-Fi was excellent, and the lush garden, pleasant terrace, and available barbecue and charcoal were real pluses. Shops and pharmacies are nearby, including Bravo Pharmacy, and Raisiniers Beach is a ten-minute drive away. Bed bugs were the main problem. We bought supplies and spent many hours cleaning the house and furniture, which also turned up cockroaches, but that wasn't enough to get rid of the bed bugs. The house seemed poorly ventilated between rentals, and the humidity contributed to odors and pests. Hopefully the owner has brought in a professional to eliminate them permanently. A few other things need attention: the kitchen sink tap leaks, and the range hood isn't usable. The shower tray sags and leaks, the shower gel holder has verdigris, and hooks or pegs are missing in the kitchen and bedrooms.

The garden is beautiful, and the barbecue was a big plus. We were lucky enough to enjoy lobster, after visiting the fishermen at the port of Le Robert. We spent lovely evenings eating on the 60 m² terrace, and our hosts treated us to an aperitif one night. Their kindness, the scenery, the challenging but rewarding hikes, and the friendly locals will stay with us. We stayed three weeks as a group of four in this very practical cottage. Even though we arrived late, our hosts had dinner ready for us, along with a basket of fresh fruit. From here, it's easy to visit both the north and south of Martinique. We had a really pleasant stay and recommend the cottage 100%.

We're back for our second visit, and the welcome was just as warm. The tour is still very interesting, even though visiting the factory isn't possible now because of Covid. We also enjoyed learning about your environmental policy. I only wish I'd understood why the vanilla is grown in greenhouses. We'll be back.

The garden at Gros Morne across the street is absolutely magnificent, and the owner seemed friendly. Still, I found his frequent drop-ins during our stay intrusive, especially when we had guests over during the day, even though we'd been warned. We didn't feel we had enough privacy. I also wish there had been an inventory when we arrived. There was a whole process of checking and counting when we left, and that should be done at both ends of the stay. Otherwise, it's easy to be accused of losing or breaking things that weren't there to begin with.
