La Maison Rouge

After a long day driving, we arrived around 9 pm exhausted, with my wife five months pregnant, expecting to check in and sleep. The hotel was shut. We called for about an hour and got no answer, then contacted Booking. After another 15 minutes, we learned it only opens for three hours a day, from 3 to 6 pm, for check-in. If you miss that window, nobody answers and you cannot get into your room. We travel a lot and had never faced this before. We asked Booking to cancel and spent the night searching for another hotel. The next day, someone from the hotel messaged us through Booking and blamed us, calling us uncivilized and impolite for not warning them we'd be late. We had no idea a hotel might only operate three hours daily, so didn't think to notify anyone. They said they'd tried calling, but my Booking number was non-European and disconnected. I don't understand why they couldn't message us on Booking to ask when we'd arrive. They also said we hadn't read the check-in rules. I hadn't, because they were in French, which I don't understand. If a place advertises on Booking, key information should be available in both the local language and English. We ended up paying an extra 150 euros for another hotel and 60 euros in international calls to Booking. The whole day was ruined. We were frustrated and worn out after the drive, and instead of resting, I spent the night looking for a room with my pregnant wife. I found their behavior unacceptable.
