There’s plenty to do nearby, from visiting a wolf park to ziplining, and a bus can get you to most places if you’re without a car. Three restaurants are also within walking distance. Back at the B&B, there’s a pool cleaned each morning and an outdoor kitchen with a fridge and BBQ. Breakfast had fruit salad, pastries, baguette, juice, coffee or tea, and cereal. The beds were so comfortable that getting up was hard, and the owners have thought through little details too, like a USB charging cube by the bed so you don’t need to worry about travel adaptors.

The place is spotless and modern, and the hosts are about as warm and welcoming as you could hope for. I’ve stayed here several times and am already looking forward to coming back for another gin and tonic on the "Hollywood Terrace".

We’ve returned to Les Hortensias for a couple of years and are sure to be back next year. It feels like home, only much nicer, with a fridge we could stock with food, wine and beer and space by the pool to barbecue and take care of ourselves during the day and evening. Peter is professional, friendly and never intrusive, while tending his vegetable patch. We also had dinner he cooked by the pool one night, and I really recommend the chicken stuffed with cheese and herbs. The villa sits in well-kept landscaped gardens just at the edge of the historic, picturesque village of Lantosque. It’s a lovingly restored traditional home with modern comforts throughout, including air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, luxurious bedding, entertainment systems and fast WiFi. Outside, there’s a good-sized pool with a shower, shaded dining area, barbecue and kitchen with a sink and fridge. Breakfast could be served when we wanted, either on the terrace above the villa or beside the pool. The spectacular fruit platter and other homemade treats were presented like something from a five-star luxury hotel. This is a peaceful little oasis in the beautiful Maritime Alps, and we feel lucky to have found it.

Set in a beautiful town, Les Hortensias has welcoming owners and excellent facilities. It really is first class, and I highly recommend it.
