Auberge La Caverne

I left after one night because I felt so uncomfortable and unsafe. When I first came in to ask about a bed for a few nights, the owner's opening 'joke' was that I could sleep in his bed. He also came into my room without knocking or letting me know. There was no respect for my privacy. Women, especially those travelling alone, should avoid staying here.

We turned up with the family at 10:30, late by French restaurant hours and very hungry. The boss still made us five fantastic burgers with good meat and proper fries. The staff were charming, and they speak English and Spanish fluently. A nice spot for a meal or a drink.

The views were fantastic, and the location worked well for us, about an hour from Lourdes, where we were headed. There are hiking trails nearby, and the nearest town is a nine minute drive, though the hotel itself is in a tiny village. We had dinner at the restaurant and really enjoyed it. Breakfast is available, though we didn't try it. Our family room was clean and gave us and our teenage kids enough room to sleep comfortably together. That helped us save money, and the staff were really friendly. They even spoke Spanish.

A good place to stay before a hike, and a nice spot to spend time with your friends. I loved the team and their dogs, everyone was so friendly. Breakfast and dinner were great, and the wine was excellent.
