Gites de Ponsillou

There’s plenty for families to do nearby, and the place itself feels beautiful and peaceful. The hosts were wonderful.

A lovely place to spend a summer holiday, with really nice hosts.

Our dog had a great time at Glampingclub Ponsillou. The gardens are enclosed, there’s a fenced area for play, and washing the dog is easy. The accommodation felt authentic without being so fancy that I worried about bringing the dog. Just right for us. The hosts are absolute darlings. Their friendly messages beforehand gave us a good feeling, and during the stay they shared lots of useful ideas for outings and markets. We also loved visiting the water gardens. We went in June 2025 and enjoyed the holiday so much that we’ve already booked again for 2026. My sister went in high season with her children and was just as happy with her stay. It felt only fair to leave a review, and I’d hate for complainers to put anyone off.

The food at the tables d'hôtes was delicious, with a cozy atmosphere and nice company from the gîte guests. Miranda was very involved and sent us plenty of excursion ideas on WhatsApp, which we appreciated. The downside is that most places to visit are a 30- to 45-minute drive away. There are walks nearby, though they're quite strenuous, and horseflies were often a nuisance. Our two weeks were on a camping pitch with private sanitary facilities. They had a shower, toilet, dishwasher, refrigerator, and sink, all very practical. An extra outlet for something like a hairdryer would have helped. The pitches are spacious and enclosed, useful with dogs, though ours still found a way out. There’s a big dog park too, but a small bin for waste bags would be handy. Getting in and out with a caravan was a real problem. It was awkward driving in, and when we left we couldn't make the turn, so we had to unhitch the caravan. That made for an unpleasant start and finish. We were the only ones on the campsite, which left it feeling isolated and less lively. If you want total quiet, that might suit you, but it didn't suit us. The grounds and gîtes need more care. Broken toys were scattered around, the ping-pong poles were broken, and weeds lined the pool fence. It didn't seem like much effort was being made to keep things neat and welcoming. We also thought the €30 final cleaning charge was steep when cleaning took only fifteen minutes. On arrival, there was an empty dish soap bottle by the dishwasher and a brush left out, so the cleaning could have been more thorough. We wouldn't be quick to recommend the property unless you really value quiet, are fine driving for outings, and can look past a few flaws.
