We loved our stay and dinner at Hotel L'Océan, Le Croisic. It's a friendly little hotel with amazing direct views out to sea. Our large, comfortable first-floor room had a huge terrace looking over the rocks and water. It was definitely breezy while we were there, and I can imagine it must be amazing in a storm. At night, we left the window slightly open to listen to the waves below. The hotel has two restaurants, L'Océan, a gourmet restaurant, and Bistrot l’Océan, which has a simpler menu. The bright bistro has full-length windows on two sides, so diners get lovely sea views. We had prawn and langoustine toastada with avocado and orange to start, then fish and steak, and finished with a wonderful chocolate fondant. Everything was beautifully presented and very tasty. The service was excellent, attentive, and informative, and we got help with the menu. The reception staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. A few weeks before we travelled from the UK, the hotel called to ask whether we'd like restaurant reservations, since we'd be staying Thursday and Friday nights and restaurants get booked up. We really appreciated that attention to detail. We both thoroughly enjoyed the stay and meals, and would happily recommend the hotel.

The location is amazing, especially at high tide when the sea is rough and the panoramic windows sit right at the water's edge. The dining experience didn't quite live up to the promise of gastronomic cooking, though. Both the taste and presentation were rather average, and the service was too. We waited a while for menus and bread. I was shocked when the waiter reached across my wife's plate several times while serving. Service should come from the guest's right.

The bistro lunch was excellent, with high-quality seafood and fish, plus incredible desserts. The view was great, though the main restaurant seemed to have the truly amazing outlook, with floor-to-ceiling windows right over the water. There's a very nice little beach right next door, and the location is super.

The view is unforgettable, and the food and service were impeccable. We came two nights in a row. The sea bass was the best we've ever tasted. Simply phenomenal. Go before they get the Michelin stars they deserve.

We had the delicate, moist sea bass in a salt crust. The server put on a nice show removing it and filleting the fish at our table. I saw him filleting a turbot for the diners next to us too. Impressive! The restaurant sits just above the bedrock tide pools on Le Coisic’s southern shore, with a perfect view. Thunderclouds in the distance, high tide, and a brisk breeze made the scene even more dramatic. The €36 lobster bisque starter was really, really good, but the menu and our waitress didn't mention that it was meant for sharing. So each of us had two bowls of the excellent soup, one after the other, not all at once. Tough deal. We had a lovely déjeuner yesterday, with attentive service that never felt bothersome. They kept our wine and water glasses filled and changed our dishes and silverware several times. Great food, dramatic atmosphere, and good service. It wasn't inexpensive, but we enjoyed ourselves immensely.
