Camping l'Escale

The staff are incredibly friendly, and I can’t fault them. The campsite has a great location, a pool, and is within walking distance of the town centre, so it should be perfect. But everything feels a bit tired and needs modernising, including the salon and pool area, to justify the price. Our pitch was right beside a busy road, with lorries going past late at night and early in the morning. Fine for one night if you’re stuck.

We had a perfect week skiing. The shower blocks had been refreshed, were toasty warm, and had plenty of hot water. The pool temperature was lowered while we were there, so we didn’t stay in as long on our second visit. The bakery delivery in the morning only takes cash. Also, I still don’t understand why the French don’t fit toilet seats.

We’d planned to stay for 10 nights but left after just 3 because the service was extremely poor. It was the worst site we’ve experienced in 10 years. The so-called owner, the woman, charged us nearly twice what the neighboring site cost, 95 euros a night, then added 8.5 euros per day for only 3A of electricity. With that price and the quality of service, we decided to move elsewhere.

The campsite is in a great spot, and the village is lovely. There’s a clean sanitary block, large cabins with showers and sinks, a nice pool, and good tent pitches, with mountain views from the site. It also has a playground, BBQ area, and petanque. Just nearby there’s another playground with really nice attractions for children. The town has activities every day, and the central location makes it easy to do lots of nice things in the area.
