Hotel Le Puy-en-Velay Bristol

What stood out for me was how helpful the staff were. At check-in, the friendly woman explained dinner, breakfast, and how to find my room in slow French, checking that I'd understood each thing. The room was clean and comfortable, with a bathtub but no shower. Dinner was fine, and breakfast had a very good buffet with lots of options.

The location worked well, close to the station, old town, and cathedral, and the room itself was clean and very comfortable. There was a wide choice at breakfast too. But arrival was chaotic: they couldn't find our booking or payment, then found two bookings but still no payment, before eventually sorting it out. Access after 11pm was difficult, and the Wi-Fi was patchy.

We were very pleased with the meals included in our Camino package, both dinner and breakfast, and the lunches prepared for our first day on GR65 were good quality too. The hotel was very cost effective for what we got, and the staff were helpful. I needed a courier for one bag, and they arranged DHL for me. For its rating, I'd give it five stars. Great location, and I'd recommend it.

The setting is beautiful, but the hotel itself feels dated and underinvested. The beds in the rooms I saw sagged and were uncomfortable, and with the thin walls plus noise from the landings and street, a quiet night just wasn't possible. Service was mediocre. Two stars might even be generous.
