The woman on the phone sounded deeply unwelcoming, like a prison guard, and seemed in no hurry to host anyone. I called to book a night using a Smartbox gift, but she said they don't accept Smartbox, despite it being listed among their available accommodations. The negative reviews seem to match a sad reality. From her voice alone, the place came across as gloomy. Avoid it if you're looking for a welcoming atmosphere.

The coast was in view, with Cannes, Nice, Saint-Tropez, and even Corsica in the distance. Inland and along the shore, there are lovely villages to visit, and the region is beautiful. Isabelle was attentive and helpful with suggestions for places to see. The welcome was warm, the rooms immaculate, and Villa des Oliviers was wonderful. The view is magnificent, and the room was cozy, so the stay could have been really enjoyable. But they should have told us about the outside construction before we arrived. We couldn't use the garden, and by 8 a.m. the workers were practically in our room. I understand the work had to get done, but it was really unpleasant. You shouldn't rent a place while construction is going on. I found it dishonest that we weren't warned. The room also had no bar of soap, even though the website says basic toiletries are provided, and there was no fridge. The TV didn't work either, which was a shame since we couldn't enjoy the outside. Breakfast was included, but it was a mediocre coffee, orange juice that wasn't fresh, either a croissant or an industrial pain au chocolat, and pieces of day-old bread. Not much effort there. They did warn us that access was a bit difficult. Still, if your engine isn't strong or you're a novice driver, getting to the villa means going several hundred meters up a very steep, narrow, winding two-way hill in first gear. If you stall, good luck. On our second evening, there was a power outage, which wasn't their fault, but they didn't bring us even a candle. That's the bare minimum, and we shouldn't have had to ask. Now that everything's been renovated, it must be very pleasant, if you can manage to get to the villa. Maybe the treatment was because we came with a Wonderbox gift voucher, but that shouldn't make a difference.
