Appartement - Portillo

Hotel Portillo is well placed in town, and you can ski to the lifts. The apartments work well for groups, with plenty of room, good cleanliness, and more than enough utensils and crockery for meals in. After skiing, the new sauna and steam room are a welcome addition. The spacious locker room is handy for storing all your equipment. I highly recommend staying here in Val Thorens.

Being close to the bars, restaurants, supermarkets, and everything else in Val Thorens made the location a real plus. We had a good week in one of the residence rooms at Le Portillo, and check-in was quick and simple. The staff were kind and helpful the whole time. Our room was on a lower floor, and we could hear the elevator a bit at night, though it never became a big issue. The ski room is basic, with cages and padlocks, but it worked well. You can ski out from the residence; coming back means a short walk from one of the nearby drop-off spots where you take your skis off. The form about what happens if you do certain things might seem a little stern at first. Just look after the room and leave it as you found it, which seems fair, and there’s no problem. We’d gladly stay here again.

The rooms are roomy and have a good view, with a kitchen that includes an oven and dishwasher. There are lockers for your skis, so you can head straight out to the slopes. Supermarkets, pubs, and restaurants are all nearby. Really good location.

We’ll definitely come back. The apartment had proper bedrooms, decent beds, and a spacious living room. In the kitchen there was a Nespresso capsule machine, a microwave, and an oven. We stayed for a week in March and didn’t hear any bar noise. The place felt clean, quiet, central, and pleasant, and I can’t relate to the negative comments others have posted. It’s right by the shops and you can ski out. There’s no ski-in access, but you can ski back and then walk, no more than about 300 metres. You don’t have to clean the apartment at checkout. We chose to spend 30 minutes doing a proper team clean to save €200, and that made perfect sense to us.
