Akwaba chez Ouli

The lack of basic maintenance and the absence of anyone at reception left me very disappointed. Electrical sockets were coming away from the wall, and the TV power strip was hanging loose. I was visiting Levens for a family weekend with my 20-year-old granddaughter. We arrived at 6 pm and were put in room 4, which was freezing, with the bathroom window open. The shower curtain rod was missing, so the curtain was crumpled on the towel rack. We struggled to hang it up, and water still ended up everywhere. There was just one bath towel and one small hand towel for the two of us. I'd asked whether we needed to bring towels and was told they were provided. The next morning the place was empty, and I couldn't find anyone to take my payment. I called several times and sent messages without getting a reply. I hadn't been told the owner wouldn't be there. I think she works as a self-employed nurse. Later that afternoon she emailed to say she had to leave very early for work and offered to pay me using the bank details she sent. I don't understand how a hotel like this can keep operating without a reception or proper welcome.

The venue was fantastic, and we had such a lovely time with our friends. We were welcomed warmly, and everything we ate and drank was delicious and beautifully presented. We'll come back!

Annie made us feel welcome with her warm smile and attentive service. We especially enjoyed her generous dishes with African flavours. Breakfast was hearty too, served on a flower-decorated table in the garden or on the terrace. Our stay was pleasant and lived up to what we expected.
