The couple who run this little site were lovely and made us feel very welcome, and their dog was a bonus. Showers were clean, with sinks where you could wash clothes or pots. There’s also a bar for a cold pint and hot meals. The superstore and petrol station are about a 10-minute drive away. We’d happily stay again.

The ferry delay meant we arrived at around 1am, and keeping the campsite updated by email was difficult with the language barrier. When we called, the receptionist came out to meet us at the gate. That kind of service is hard to fault. It’s a wonderful, peaceful place to stay.

Licques has enough shops and places to eat for a stay, including bakers, butchers, a small supermarket and a couple of bar-restaurants. It’s also about half an hour from the coast and from St Omer, a lovely town with gardens. At the campsite, there’s a play area for kids, and the facilities are laid out well. It’s a compact site with mostly static caravans and a few touring vans and tents, and mainly French guests. We found it welcoming, contrary to the previous review. I spoke French with the very patient owner, though I think he speaks some English too. Good value, and a good site overall.

Just stopped for the night on the way home. It’s a peaceful, quiet place, and the lovely family who run it are a big part of that. I prefer this kind of two-star campsite to the fancy ones.

We were staying at Campsite les pommiers des trois pays next door and went over by bike to look around. A sign at the entrance said visitors needed permission, so I approached reception to ask politely in French if we could see the campsite. Before I could explain that we were nearby and travel through the region often, a man hurried out and cut me off with a firm “NO, THIS IS A PRIVATE CAMPSITE” in English. I repeated what he’d said, surprised, and got the same response, followed by a half-hearted “désolé.” It felt unprofessional and unfriendly. We won’t be back or spend any money there. Other people reading these reviews should know you might be turned away based on how you look.
