Hôtel du Parc

The room was basic, budget-friendly and comfortable, and the staff were friendly. We got there at 5pm to check in, but the front door was locked and a sign said check-in started at 6pm. Guests with a door code could go straight to their rooms, but the rest of us had to wait for staff to arrive and let us in. Several people were waiting.

The restaurant was excellent. For 15 euros, the menu had a good choice of starters, mains and desserts. My chicken salad starter was tasty, the steak was tender and flavoursome, and it was cooked well. I also had chips and finished with the cheese plate. Breakfast was the usual French hotel spread: yoghurt, bread, toast, jams, fruit juice, tea or coffee. The staff were very good and spoke English. Everything was spotlessly clean, including reception, the lounge, restaurant and my room. The room was basic, with tired decor, but functional, and the small bathroom worked fine. There was a bottle of water but no kettle or drinks facilities. I stayed here as a stopover to break up a long journey, and yes, I’d happily stay again.

It was nice that reception was open around the clock, but some staff weren’t very friendly and didn’t seem happy that we weren’t fluent in French.

I wasn’t pleased with the service. My first room wasn’t ready, and the towels in the second room weren’t clean enough.
