This place was filthy and smelled so bad we could hardly breathe through our noses. There was a leak in the ceiling in one spot around 7am, and the washroom didn’t even have doors or ceilings. The lights were broken, and the smell reminded me of shrimp. I can’t describe how awful it felt to be there. This is meant to be a holy place, but the building felt disgusting and disgraceful. It made me think that crimes could be hidden there because people come with faith. Someone should call the police, take control of the area, and shut it down.

We booked and paid six months in advance, but when our group arrived, we didn’t get a room. Staff treated us like dirt and spoke to another group about us because it was easier than speaking to us in English. They moved us to another dump and treated us badly there too. They also made a smaller group sleep on lobby sofas because they’d overbooked. The only good thing I can say is that I got through it without being arrested after arguing with the staff. Please reconsider staying here and go somewhere else.

Our party of nine booked in January and arrived on Thursday evening, 19 May, but were told there was no room for us. Everyone else was accommodated while we were sent across the road to what felt like an absolute kip. We never got to stay here, so I can’t describe the hotel itself. The French were in town, and apparently the rest of us didn’t matter. Disgusting treatment.

The central location made it easy to get to nearby sights and places to eat. My room was spacious, clean, and nicely decorated, a comfortable place to come back to after a long day exploring. The staff at Hotel Aux Armés de Belgique were welcoming and attentive, and my stay was fantastic. I can’t wait to return.

The view is amazing and the location is perfect. Staff are really friendly and helpful, but the rooms need some improvement.
