B&B HOTEL Lyon Centre Monplaisir

If you’re driving to this hotel from outside France, check the car sticker rules first. As of March 2025, France requires cars to display emissions stickers to enter certain zones, and the hotel is in a low emission zone in Lyon. The French system requires you to know the exact car and license plate before ordering a sticker. I rented a car in Italy the day before my planned stay in Lyon, then found out online that the sticker couldn’t be digital and had to be physically attached to the car. Shipping takes a week, so I couldn’t get one in time and couldn’t make my stay at this hotel. If you book and plan to drive there, make sure you either rent a French car or have your rental for longer than a week so you can get the required sticker.

You can book and check in late because this place runs nonstop, but it feels like a capitalist facility where you can’t talk to anyone, especially in languages other than French. Breakfast is a “petit” one.

The entry codes for everything are really confusing, and the staff weren’t much help. When we tried to buy water from the vending machine and it wouldn’t work, the receptionist just looked at us as if to say, “it is what it is.” Breakfast was revolting. The eggs and bacon were undercooked, which is only good for salmonella. I’d use this place only as a last resort. Luckily, we were just passing through, and Lyon is a beautiful city with much better options.

I stayed at B&B HOTEL Lyon Center Monplaisir in October 2024. There are supermarkets, cafes, boulangeries, bistros, and shops selling cheese, vegetables, fruit, and chocolate nearby. The hotel is also close to the center, buses, and metro stations. Check-in at the machine by the entrance was quick and safe. The room and bathroom were clean, and I slept excellently on a very good mattress and pillow. I skipped breakfast, which was the right call: it was very poor, with eggs, toast, frozen pastries, and a few jams. What bothered me were white spots on the second-floor hallway carpet and stale, dirty air. I hope they fix that, because I’d stay here again.
