Getting around Lyon was easy from Hôtel des Artistes. We could walk over to the Saône, cross into Vieux Lyon, and reach the funicular for the Basilica Notre-Dame of Fourvière and the Théâtre Gallo Romain. Buses and other public transport were a few blocks away, including routes to the train station and nearby neighborhoods, and we used them to see the Lyon murals. Around the hotel, there were boulangeries, cafés and bouchons just a short stroll away, with shops and underground parking nearby too. Our room, 206, was the “Act 3 Double Room with Twin Beds,” though it actually had two small double-sized beds. It was a good size and comfortable, with modern amenities, plenty of closet and shelf space, a walk-in shower, and a Juliet balcony looking over the tree-lined square. The lift handled our luggage easily. The hotel overlooks Les Célestins, Théâtre de Lyon and Place des Célestins, a lovely setting for an eco-friendly boutique stay. We’d booked ahead, and Tomàs gave us a very warm welcome when we arrived early. Fatima was just as welcoming later on. The extra-cost buffet breakfast had plenty to choose from and came from local producers. Christophe (?), who hosted in the small dining room, was very friendly. We had a perfect stay at the Hôtel des Artistes in Lyon.

The staff were lovely, especially Hector, Thomas, and Fatima, who were so kind and helpful. From the hotel it was easy to get to the metro, La Maison de la Pistachio, shops, and plenty of boulangeries. We were there on the last day of the Festival of Lights in December. Bus #13 from Gare du Lyon got us close, and it was only a short walk from the stop. There’s a Laverie about 10 minutes away on foot. It’s a cozy place and I’d happily stay again.

We spent most of our time out exploring, so the rooms being on the small side didn’t bother us. Ours was quiet and the bed was comfortable, and there’s a pleasant lobby if you want to work or sit around. The hotel is very clean, the staff are helpful and friendly, and for the price it feels like a bargain. Breakfast is buffet style, with fruit, pastries and bread, yogurt, granola, and hard-boiled eggs. The location makes getting around simple. The Metro is a couple of minutes away, and we used it to reach Part-Dieux train station. Restaurants are close by, and it’s easy to get to the Old Town and shopping areas. Sichone and Fiston were our favorite places to eat, both within a 5-10 minute walk. Lyon itself was wonderful, and the food is hard to beat.

We had a comfortable room, though I found the bed a bit firm. Breakfast was nice but no frills. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and even helped us get a cab to the train station for our return trip. We’ll stay again.

The front desk staff are great, and the location is a real plus. The bedroom itself was good, but the bathroom needs major work. It isn’t laid out well and is missing several basic amenities. Breakfast didn’t feel like good value, and the breakfast staff were inefficient. Still, for a short stay the property is decent for the price, and the location makes it a reasonable choice.
