ibis budget Lyon Centre - Gare Part-Dieu

It's a budget hotel by the train station, but at 230 euros a night during my stay, saying you get what you pay for would be dishonest. On arrival, staff assigned me a key to a room that was already occupied, with another guest's belongings spread around. Thankfully they weren't in the room, and thankfully I'm not a thief. I was moved to another room without even an apology. A night staff member was incredibly dismissive, or maybe just lazy. When I asked to extend my stay, he said, “we are booked,” which didn't make sense when checkout is at 12pm and check-in is also at 12pm, leaving a delay before rooms are assigned. I pushed, and he told me to come back at 7am. When I did, another worker helped me extend, and the hotel wasn't even close to being booked. I wonder if Ibis cares that the night staff could have cost them an extension. The room was just spacious enough for my brief stay, but next time I'd rather sleep in the train station.

EDIT: Thanks for replying, but I can't agree with what you said. EN 747 is the relevant standard here, and it says the safety rail must extend 16cm above the mattress. The photo shows that this wasn't the case, so a child could easily roll over it while asleep. The location is really convenient, central but quiet, which makes it a shame I won't stay here next time I'm in Lyon. This is a classic Ibis Budget, with the “3-person” setup of a double bed and a bunk above it. In theory that's handy when you're travelling with a child. But during our stay, we couldn't use the bunk because the mattress was so thick the safety rail was useless. The bed's label gave a maximum mattress thickness, and this one was twice that. We put the mattress on the floor instead. It worked, but wasn't much fun. Staff didn't seem very interested, saying the mattresses were the same in all rooms and shrugging. That's not reassuring with a safety issue.

It was very hot, the aircon didn't work, and the windows opened onto an interior space instead of outside. Poor overall.

The family room we booked was unusually large and very comfortable, apart from the heat. It was too warm inside, the AC wasn't working, possibly because it was still early in the season, and the windows were locked so we couldn't open them. A great hotel if you want to stay close to the train station.
