Villa Berlioz

We had a clean room with a really spacious bathroom, and liked having free tea in the room. The night receptionist was wonderful, an Indian gentleman whose name I can't remember. The lift is tiny, which was pretty entertaining. It's a great spot, right by a tram stop and very close to the main station.

The hotel was very clean, and breakfast was adequate. It's well placed for public transport, but I wouldn't choose to stay here again. Our first room felt intended for commercial travellers, not like the one shown in the publicity. We were moved eventually, though staff didn't seem particularly concerned, and the replacement was what we'd paid for. Even so, I felt we were overcharged for most of the stay. As we're a bit plus-sized, the shower in the first room was too small for me to use, and the lift was very cosy. I wouldn't want to ride in it with someone I didn't know in case they got the wrong idea.

Don't stay here. There was a literal poo smell in the hallways, rooms, and lift. It was so bad you could smell it through your nose, or block your nose and taste it in your mouth. Maybe it's a sewer leak or something, but it's disgusting and doesn't feel healthy. The room is so small there isn't even space to open your suitcase.

From the garden side, our clean room was quiet, with birds singing outside. Breakfast was fresh and good, and I found the hotel comfortable overall. There's a train station beside it, plus a tram that makes it easy to get to other parts of Lyon or connect with the metro.
