Appart Hotel Odalys City Marseille Le Dome

The apartment was great, with a good-quality bed, and check-in went fine. But the invoice issue means I won’t book these apartments again. I needed an invoice addressed to my company, which had paid for the stay. After more than 100 bookings around the world, this is the first hotel that has told me it can’t issue one in my company’s name. At checkout, the person handling it spoke rudely and wouldn’t listen. He said I had to ask Booking, but I tried to explain that Booking is only an intermediary and doesn’t provide invoices. I needed the invoice under my company’s name, not mine, and he offered no reasonable solution. If there’s a tax inspection, I’ll have to explain this to the Spanish authorities because the payer and the invoiced person don’t match. The attitude at checkout was really unpleasant. I’m also a Booking partner and know the rules well, but he still didn’t listen.

The room was too hot to sleep in at night. We were there in June, when temperatures reached around 35C, and although the room stayed around 24.5-26C during the day according to its own thermometer, the AC barely worked and errored out at night, letting the temperature climb past 27C. We asked twice for someone to fix it, move us, or offer some help. The man at the desk brushed us off and said a technician would come the next day, but they either never came or didn’t fix anything. As far as I’m concerned, we paid for AC and didn’t get it. Odalys City Marseille Le Dome is a few minutes’ walk from a metro station and around the corner from a supermarket, but I’d recommend avoiding it.

They charged us 50 euros after checkout because we hadn’t emptied the room’s dustbin. Since when do hotel guests have to take out their own rubbish? They said the rule was in a document we signed, but kept it during our stay and never gave us a copy. No one told us about it verbally, so how would guests know? I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels, and this is the only one with such a strange rule. It feels like a trap to get extra money out of people. Don’t stay at this so-called hotel, they’re robbers.

The place didn’t feel clean at all. Our bathroom smelled awful, the rooms were dirty, and the service was either rude or clueless. Even the dish sponge and cloth were wet before we’d used them, and there were bugs flying around when we arrived. We booked at the last minute after our late flight was cancelled and options were limited. At 1am we waited about 30 minutes for reception to check in the person ahead of us. That guest came back downstairs because someone was already in the room he’d been given, and he’d walked in on them in their underwear. They took a €150 deposit even though we’d prepaid, and the city tax also had to be paid at the hotel. No one told us when breakfast was or gave us the Wi-Fi codes. Only one lift was working, and it took forever. There was just one towel in our room. They also charge a fee if you don’t wash the dishes or take out the rubbish before leaving, so make sure you do that. I didn’t feel safe leaving my bag there, especially after reading another review saying their bags had gone missing. The hotel didn’t help at all, even after a police report was submitted. Don’t stay here unless you’ll otherwise be homeless for the night.
