Appartement Marseille Saint Charles

The hotel and its amenities are basic, and the breakfast was just okay. After the first day, we chose to eat at a local bakery instead. The hotel and rooms could be cleaner, and the area outside didn’t feel great in the evenings. The staff were kind and helpful, though. After checkout, we could leave our luggage in the cloakroom while we had more time to explore Marseille.

Breakfast was excellent, the room was clean, and staff were friendly and helpful. The location is great too. From the train platform, head for the Metro and take the lift down. Then walk through the underpass at Place des Marseillaise and turn around the street corner to reach the hotel. You don’t have to haul your luggage up or down the famous big staircase.

The breakfast was included and very good, and the staff were fine. We chose the hotel for its location. The room was standard IBIS, with the usual badly designed bathroom. Ours faced the street, and that was a mistake: it was noisy all night, and I should have asked to move. The area looked unsafe, especially at night. If you’re coming from Saint Charles station, take the lift or escalator down to the Metro level. Instead of going into the Metro, carry straight on and you’ll come out at street level at the bottom of the big staircase. The Hôtel is diagonally opposite.

The breakfast was good, and the hotel is very close to Gare. The room was tiny, though, and the place itself is pretty basic. If your window faces the street, expect a lot of noise. The windows don't block it at all.
