La Calanq'Aise

We had a lovely, relaxing stay at La Calanq'Aise, with the cicadas and the pool adding to the idyllic setting. The Calanques Park is right nearby, and with a bit of planning, you can get to Marseille city center by bus. The breakfast was excellent and filling, a great way to start the day. The welcoming hosts are always on hand for questions, share their experience as Marseille residents, and can suggest places locals usually go. They also talk about how the city has developed.

The directions by car are worth knowing before you go. From the Mazargues district, follow signs for "Les Baumettes." At the famous prison ramparts, turn left onto the "Traverse" de Rabat, then right onto the "Traverse" de la Seigneurie. That takes you easily to the "Avenue" de Valmont. Park at the top of the passage, then walk about 20 meters to your accommodation. I learned this the hard way after coming from Cassis via the Col de la Gineste. Google Maps sent me along Boulevard de Félibrige to Avenue de Valmont, but the so-called boulevard is a narrow lane winding under the hill, with few chances to pass another car. The avenue is open both ways, but parked cars barely leave room to get through. A proper Marseilles joke, like the sardine that blocked the port! If you arrive by plane or train, a taxi can get you there without trouble. I stayed one night on June 27, 2022, and, like the other reviews, found everything perfect. Christiane, the hostess and a true Marseillaise, was incredibly attentive and gave me plenty of information about hiking in the Calanques National Park without laying on the typical Marseillaise accent. The place feels magical, especially the pergola beside the pool. At nightfall you can take in a panoramic view all the way to the Côte Bleue and Notre-Dame de la Garde, the "Bonne Mère."

The lady here is so dedicated to making sure you have a pleasant stay. It’s a bed and breakfast at the foot of the Calanques, and the welcome is very warm.

There’s a very friendly welcome, and breakfast is simple but tasty and enough. It’s well placed along the GR98. There’s a bit of a walk, but hardly any alternatives.
