MELCHIOR - Beau T2 avec terrasse au cœur d'Euroméditerranée

The hotel is good value, near Marseille’s dockland area, where an interesting urban renewal project is underway. There are lots of interesting places nearby, including Cosquer Méditerranée and the beautiful Marseille Cathedral museum. The room was neat and well maintained, though on the small side, and the bilingual front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The railway and tram stations are within walking distance. I wouldn’t suggest walking from the airport tram if you arrive late at night, though, as there weren’t many people out on the streets. The hotel buffet breakfast was €13 per person and had delicious French pastries and cheese. The nearby A&M cafe also serves a great breakfast.

I stayed for a week, and the location was great, about a 15-minute walk to everywhere, kind of in the middle of it all. The staff are very helpful, so feel free to contact the lobby if there’s an issue. The setup works by asking for what you need, so you have to request things like towels and hair dryers at reception. They’re free. Breakfast is good if you like the French style, though it can’t compare with Mediterranean breakfast, as there are no olives or tomatoes. Madame Karima at the breakfast station was very helpful too. As I mentioned, they expect you to ask for most things.

The food was good, and the person looking after the dining area, Karima, was constantly on her feet, cutting or changing things and keeping the food topped up and presentable. I’ve never seen anything like it before. A one-woman show!

At breakfast my blood sugar dropped because I have diabetes, and one of the staff went out of her way to get me breakfast. Karima was very kind and patient, and that made me feel comfortable during the stay. The room was very clean too, and the breakfast service was especially good. I’ll definitely recommend this hotel to all my work colleagues and come back because of Karima.
