The room was roomy, clean, cozy, and comfortable, though getting to it means climbing steep stairs, so it wouldn't suit someone with mobility issues. The building looks a little old from outside, but the interior is attractive and has a lovely bar with Thai decorations. It's right in the center of Mer, with a large free public car park nearby, and makes a cheap, comfortable base for the Loire castles at about 50 euros a night. Breakfast is included, but quite basic: bread, jam, croissants, and snacks, with only tea and coffee served hot. WiFi sometimes slowed down, though it was acceptable overall. Check-in is only after five. The staff were very kind, and the owner was lovely too. A cute little place, even if it feels a bit in the middle of nowhere.

We paid 52 euros for a night for two, which seemed fair compared with nearby hostels, and I'd happily stay again. It has a very French look, almost like a scene from a painting, and the place was clean and cozy. Some parts are dated. There's a bar open to locals and a snooker table; I didn't see WiFi, but I hadn't asked about it either. Volunteers help run the hostel.

Mer doesn't have many restaurants open, but this is handy for a stop near Chambord and the A10. The place has a lot of character, with a Zen theme and a friendly welcome for the price we paid. You walk in through the bar, then the accommodation spreads out through the building. Our room was at the top after a steep staircase, but it was clean, cozy, and charming.
