The estate is beautiful, polished, and spotless, but what really made me feel at home was Frédéric. He looks after guests so well, with a great sense of humor and lots of thoughtful touches, while still giving you space. And he’s a wonderful cook. Domaine de l'Espal is such a peaceful place, I’d happily recommend a visit.

Meursac is a great starting point for seeing Charente-Maritime and places beyond, and Domaine de l'Espal made a lovely base for us. The grounds and interiors are gorgeous and very well cared for. Frédéric welcomed us warmly, and the dinners each evening were delicious. Don’t skip breakfast either, it was just as good. We stayed three nights and still wished we could have stayed longer. It feels like a secret worth sharing, and we’ll be back soon.

The grounds are lovely, and the pool is superb. We found the accommodation fantastic and tastefully decorated, with a very warm welcome from the start. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh homemade produce. We didn’t try the table d'hôtes, though it looked very tempting. We’d be glad to return to this magnificent estate. Thanks for everything.

The rooms are spacious, and the welcome is incredible. It’s a small, intimate hotel in a charming residence, decorated with real taste. The owner is a brilliant cook and a funny, engaging host.

The dinner alone is a reason to stay, Frederic cooked us a truly delightful meal, worthy of a Michelin-starred chef. The whole place feels made for switching off, from the heated pool and wooded estate to the carefully decorated room. We felt completely at ease, and the attentive service is something you don’t come across often. Domaine de l'Espal and its host, Frederic, really are a hidden gem. Leaving was the hardest part.
