The host was a great help, and breakfast was solid, so we had a good stay despite the rooms being a little small and dated. For anyone walking the GR5, the hotel is right on the trail and next to the railway station. I’d stay again if I pass through Modane. The restaurant only opens on certain days. There’s also a pretty good family-run pizzeria close by, Pizza Presto.

The bed was comfortable and the shower was nice. We picked this small, fairly cheap place for one night, and it worked well enough. Our room faced the river on the main street, which was probably a better view than facing the station.

You get a lovely view from the window, with the river below and mountains above. The bar and restaurant served great food, and the hotel is right in the center of town. It’s a quirky place, and the room layout might not suit everybody, but it was clean and comfortable.

Our room was tiny, but clean and nicely presented. Modane itself doesn’t have much to see or do, which we already expected, so this was a good place to stop on the way somewhere.
