Hôtel de France

The receptionist was young, very polite, patient with my limited French, and helpful when we arrived late without a booking. Our room looked much like the online photos, and at first seemed clean and well equipped. But the air conditioning and safe both failed, and there wasn't even a kettle or tea and coffee setup. The room faced an inner courtyard, so with the window open it was quiet enough to sleep. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was decent but limited, with no cereal, fresh fruit, hot choices, or sliced bread for the toaster.

We slept well here. The decor is a little dated, but everything worked fine. It's a nice hotel in the center of Montargis, a charming small city that isn't very well known. Parking is right outside and inexpensive, though payable from 9 to 18h.

The hotel is lovely, well priced, and in a good location. There's a view over the square from the front rooms. Getting there by car can be difficult on market days or during festivals, when the one-way system is in place. It was advertised as having a bar, but it wasn't open the night we stayed, perhaps because of the music festival.

Montargis is a lovely little town and makes a good stop along the way. Our courtyard room was spacious and quiet, and the staff were very friendly. They arranged a great dinner reservation for us, and breakfast was tasty. Good value too. We really enjoyed the stay and would highly recommend it.
