Breakfast was disappointing. They set it up at our table with just a thin sliver of tired rock melon and a couple of tiny cheese slices, along with bread, croissants, and yoghurt. At check-in, the staff member was surly and barely said a word. Our room was basic and clean, though the toilet had no ventilation. It was upstairs, so getting our luggage up was a hassle. The reception floor needed a good scrub; perhaps the owner's? three dogs running around there contributed. I know it's an old building, but every part of the experience needs improvement, especially the attitude of some staff.

The restaurant is worth a visit even if you aren't staying at the hotel. Skip the set menu and order a main and dessert instead, both are well priced and there's plenty of food. I really enjoyed the beef bourguignon. The hotel itself is basic but comfortable, with spacious rooms and especially welcoming staff. It's an old building, so there are quirks like sloping floors, which add to its charm.

We didn't stay at Logus Hotel Restaurant De L'Ecu, but we did eat there, and the food was fresh and delicious. Wow. A trip to Montbard isn't complete without a meal there!
