Four Maison d'hotes

We arrived in Montcuq parched and exhausted after a blistering trek through the beautiful French countryside. With only a moment’s notice, Yolande, the elegant new owner of Four Maison d'Hotes (Intemporalle), greeted us with icy drinks on her breezy, stone-walled patio, then showed us upstairs to our air-conditioned room. The hotel is very quiet, and the beds are big and comfortable. It has a French chic, rustic feel, with each room decorated differently. Hand-painted furniture, art, and musical instruments add color, but the look stays restrained and practical. Before dinner, Yolande brought out local wine and a platter of homemade foie gras, breads, and nuts. She’s a wonderful host and joined us briefly for a drink and a chat about our trip. After a bath and that pre-dinner drink, we walked into town. It’s small and refined, much like the hotel. L6 is a short walk away, with excellent French food, steak on 400c lava stone, pommes frites, and wine from the region, at a reasonable price. Breakfast was homemade croissants and jams, delicious natural yoghurt with nuts and muesli, and fresh baguette with butter. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely return. If you’re thinking about visiting Montcuq, staying at the Four Maisons is a must!
