I’d really avoid this hotel. The rooms are worn and service is slow, but the owner is the worst part of what feels like a tourist trap past its prime. My ageing parents had travelled all day and were exhausted when they arrived. He told them he couldn’t find their booking and had no rooms left. His wife later called it a little joke, but my parents didn’t understand that and were left worrying about what to do. For the rest of their stay he kept making snide comments, and the staff were just as rude. Look at Booking dot com if you want to see his replies to anyone who dares leave a critical review. They’d be hilarious if he weren’t ruining people’s holidays.

The room was meant to face the garden, but ours looked onto the street. It was poor value for money. The double bed was fine, though the bunk beds were very uncomfortable. Noise came through the poorly soundproofed room, and light leaked in around the door. The stained bathtub wasn’t practical, and reception staff were unfriendly. Parking nearby was nearly impossible unless you got very lucky.

The hotel stays quiet at night as long as you keep the windows shut. Staff were barely around outside of check-in at reception. Meals are quite expensive, and finding parking nearby is a matter of luck.

We arrived at 4:45 PM and found the place closed. Breakfast had to be ordered the day before. The coffee came cold, with an insect floating in it, and the hotelier was exasperated when we asked for a replacement. In the end, the two of us shared two croissants and one pain au chocolat. We won’t return.

There are plenty of nearby restaurants, so everyone can find something, and the breakfast served at the table was perfect. Our room for three was clean and fairly spacious. The hotel sits at the foot of the dungeon, and we had a very good stay. The owners seem to have chosen an old-fashioned decor to suit the nearby Magnificent Castles. Free parking is about 100 ml away. As for the negative reviews, this isn’t Versailles 😁.
