Castel de Tres Girard

We stopped in for dinner during our Burgundy trip, though we didn't stay at the hotel. The staff were all really kind and helpful. My quenelle de brochet looked lovely, but it was tough, rubbery, and very bland. It seemed like it might have been made hours before and reheated a little. I've had much better at bistros. I would have sent it back, but it was so small that I finished it in two bites. Maybe we should have picked the pre fixe menu, but the meal still fell short of what I expected.

The breakfast had everything you could ask for, and then some. There's also a lovely restaurant with a huge wine list, plus a pool, garden, and secure parking. The price felt fair. Set among the top wine-yards, this is a lovely country hotel, with spacious rooms and big bathrooms.

We only booked one night and immediately wished we'd stayed longer. Our room was peaceful, overlooking the rolling vineyards, and had a clean, freshly modern feel and a comfortable bed. The outdoor patio and pool were a lovely extra for enjoying the afternoon views. We also had a wonderful dinner at the hotel restaurant, and the staff were very attentive. Castel is a must stay, right in the heart of the wine vineyards.

We had a delightful lunch at Castel on a pleasant day, sitting outside with a view of the Castel garden. The service was impeccable, and the food was exceptional. We shared several dishes, and I'd especially recommend the beef tartare and tomahawk grilled steak. It seems like a beautiful spot for a business retreat or a vacation.
