L'Hôtel Particulier

The flat was nice and in a nice building, and the location and big private parking were real pluses. But we were cold, especially overnight, and the owners had removed the heating controls for both the AC and heaters. For more than 100 EUR a night, being expected to carry rubbish around the city is frustrating. The instructions just said to put it in the bins, without saying where they were. I'm not local and didn't want to have to hunt for them. The listing also said I could leave the car there before and after checkout, but when I messaged ahead, they said that wasn't possible. And I got about 15 emails after booking, which was annoying. I was on vacation and out of office.

The location in Nancy was perfect, in a quiet area but close to everything, and I did enjoy my stay. The apartment, Vincent's one, was bright, with lovely garden views and personal touches in the decor. Great shower and bathroom, I liked the shower gel and shampoo, and the bed was comfortable. For the price, though, I'd expected better attention to detail and maintenance. The kitchen had very limited equipment for proper self-catering, some lights didn't work, and neither did the nespresso machine. The little red sofa in the bedroom had seen better days and wasn't very comfortable.

The family running the hotel made us feel like guests in their home, and breakfast was generous and tasty. Our room was spacious and bright, and with the windows open to the park it was very comfortable, even without air-conditioning. They carried our bags upstairs, which helped since it's a walk-up with no lift. The setting is lovely and quiet, between the large Pepiniere city park and a beautiful private park on a dead-end street, and very close to Place Stanislaus.

Vincent was a huge help when we arrived late at night. Two of us women from Canada had no idea where we were, and he came to meet us and had us follow him to the hotel. He also gave us lots of useful tips about where to go and what to do. Our room looked out over the park, felt spacious and welcoming, and was the cleanest room we had in three weeks. The hospitality and quaint room made for a lovely French experience. Don't miss the hospitality here, the service was the best we had in all of France.
