This cafe by the Loire has changed a lot over its five years, and I’m delighted with where it’s landed. It began with simple but tempting bagel sandwiches and a few outdoor tables beside a fairly busy side road. Now there’s a huge terrace, with many lunch tables marked reserved, a wide range of drinks, and dishes like Vitello Tonatto and niçoise salad with tuna. The Nevers crowd always seems to be there, enjoying a mix of French, English and other worldly flavors. It may be the best terrace in town, and Nevers is lucky to have it as a reliable favorite. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next five years bring. The owners and staff deserve to be happy with how it’s grown. The cakes are gorgeous, especially the carrot cake, which is just top. And the pulled pork sandwich has gone from an occasional special to a regular on the daily menu. Give it a try, and be patient if you haven’t booked ahead.

The cafe sits in a beautiful spot right by the river, with a welcoming feel. The owners serve delicious food with a smile, and the plates are great value. The cakes are wonderful too. There are vegetarian-friendly choices, a nice change from the usual steak frites lunch. Highly recommended.

The atmosphere has that bright, cozy Northern coffee shop feel, with neutral to cool colors, different music playing, and cute touches like mushroom and vegetable salt shakers that made me smile. The owners speak both UK English and French; the other staff, who I think are part-timers, speak French. The cook is very friendly. Food-wise, I especially liked the bagels and, if you’re lucky enough to find them on the menu, the Western and Southern European dishes. The tortilla was really tasty, and as a Valencian I was excited to try it. The garlic bread was crunchy, filling, nicely sized, buttery and well garnished. The price for the quality is impeccable, so check it out if you’re nearby. They also have rooms, souvenirs and biker items. You can leave a tip after eating even if you pay by credit card, so feel free to show them you enjoyed the food ^^

I had a rest day in Nevers while walking my camino to st. Jean pied de port. Crossing the bridge to get breakfast, I spotted Cafe Velo and was excited as a keen cyclist. It had everything you’d expect from a cycling cafe, artwork, newspaper clippings, signed cycling jerseys, all in perfect condition. The espresso and cappuccino were heavenly, and the pancakes tasted like my grandma used to make. The service was straight from the textbook. I came back for lunch, and mama mia, the pasta. 👌 The staff also gave me helpful tips for maintaining my bicycle. Awesome experience, 10/10!

The owners are really nice and friendly, and we’ll be back. We had the pulled pork sandwich with slaw for dinner, full of great flavor, and the gingerbread cake was delicious.
