Hôtellerie du Couvent

Set on a hillside near the village centre, the hotel has some beautiful walks close by and is a lovely place to unwind. It’s a real gem, with the quirky feel you’d expect from a hotel in a convent. The rooms are simple, lovely and very clean, with a modern look and a nice en suite. The restaurant serves excellent meals, and there’s a good choice of beers and wines.

The building looks nice, and the people seemed friendly. I made a mistake by not checking carefully before booking through booking.com. It’s inside a convent, and there’s no TV in the room because of that. Getting there from Colmar at night was a bit tricky. The room smelled slightly chemical, though I’m not sure what the smell was. The sheets and beds were nice, and the shower pressure was really good, but I’d booked one big bed and got two mattresses with a gap between them, which wasn’t nice. Breakfast had no eggs, and there was no complimentary water. I also spotted small bugs inside the ceiling light. It was super clean.

The atmosphere was lovely, and there’s plenty of parking. It’s a convent for nuns, with a nice enough small room, but no blind, which is why I’d give the room 4 stars. There’s no TV in the room, though there is a TV room on the floor. We had a good meal and breakfast, but you need to book dinner in advance. Get organized and you can reach Ouvrage du Simserhof in time to join a tour of the Maginot Lines fort.

Everything was fine, and it’s a nice place. We couldn’t reserve dinner for a short stay, and that wasn’t mentioned during booking. It would be better to book a table at the same time as the room.
