Mercure Orléans Centre

The room was clean, and breakfast was good. The lobby has a trendy look, and it was easy to park and walk into the city. The hotel is right by the river, with a cool view of the pool and river. It was a little noisy at night because it’s close to the freeway.

The friendly staff and ok breakfast were positives, but I won’t return. At around 180 euros per room per night, it’s extremely expensive for what you get, and the rooms badly need modernising. They felt like they were styled in the 1990s and were poor for a 4-star hotel. There were paper cups, chipped paint, a broken rain shower head and a room safe that didn’t work, in room 208 if Mercure staff are reading. We stayed twice in August with our family, breaking up the drive from the UK to the south of France. The location worked well for seeing the centre of Orleans, about a 10-minute walk away, and the private car park was important to us, but the rooms didn’t offer value for money.

We stayed here on the way to and from our holiday in the South of France. Getting to the hotel from the major roads was easy, and it’s an easy walk into town. The communal areas were well done, and breakfast was good, but some of the rooms didn’t match the rest of the hotel. On the way down we had a fine room on the top floor. Coming back, our room on floor 2 felt like a different hotel, and it cost the same. If you get one of the refurbished rooms, the hotel is fine. The others are seriously overpriced. Our second room was very dated, with paper cups, no sewing kits like the other rooms and no sockets by the bed. The shower screen wasn’t sealed to the bath, so even a short shower left the floor very wet. The double glazing was poor, and we heard a lot of outside noise and doors banging along the corridor. The air conditioning was inefficient and extremely loud, and we only realised on our return that our door didn’t close properly. The corridor carpet had bleach stains all along it, and the cleaning cupboard had been left standing wide open, which was dangerous with young children.

I enjoyed my stay here a lot. The team were nice, breakfast was great, and everything was good. It was a good choice.
