Hotel bon accueil

We were soaked through from riding our motorcycles, and the proprietor was so helpful, polite, and understanding. He even offered to put our wet jackets and trousers in another room to dry. The beds were comfortable and we slept well, and the three-course dinner was excellent value, with nice wine too. The town centre is about a 30-minute walk. A good place to stay whether you're on a motorcycle or in a car.

If you want somewhere quiet and out of the way, this place fits, though it's about 2.5 km from restaurants, a 5-10 minute drive. The room was okay and had a nice balcony, but I won't stay again because there's no reception and, as far as I could tell, no breakfast. They text you the room and door codes instead of having reception open, so you may be stuck if you can't receive texts in France. Maid service was just someone knocking and handing over towels if you asked. I'd been there a week, and none of the towels or garbage in my room had been taken away.

After driving 900 km, finding that my reserved room wasn't available was hugely disappointing. I was tired and had to find somewhere else, which meant another 50 km of driving and lots of calls. The money was eventually refunded the next day, probably with help from the booking website. That's the only positive thing I can say. Booking showed reception hours of 5-7 pm, but nobody was there and I had no door code. Calling the number listed didn't work either. The owner first messaged that I should have answered my phone three days earlier and could forget about a refund. It had been a hidden number, which usually means a sales call, and there was no voicemail or email when I didn't answer an unknown caller. He was able to reply to a complaint through the booking website in under five minutes, but apparently not to handle the booking. The location was disappointing too, in a suburb of Oyonnax with only the hostel and some neighbors nearby. Maybe I was there at the wrong time of year, since I seemed to be the only guest, but that shouldn't have been a problem. Everything was closed when I arrived, and I wasn't made to feel welcome. They might have earned another star if they'd apologized, but instead I was blamed for not being available.

Really great place, clean and comfortable, and lovely and quiet.
