Hôtel Rocade

When we got stranded in Pamiers in the middle of the night because of engine trouble, the owner's daughter at Hotel La Rocade came to our rescue. We don't speak French, which made finding a hotel and taxi difficult, but she spoke excellent English and was incredibly kind and helpful. Even with reception closed, she arranged a room and gave us useful practical information. The manager and staff were friendly, the room neat and clean, and we enjoyed the restaurant. What could have been a stressful stop on our way home turned into a surprisingly pleasant stay.

There aren't any other shops within walking distance since it's a motel. The front rooms do get noisy, though the double glazing helps. For the price, the room was clean and we got the larger upgraded one, with a big bed, a big shower and, erm, a tall toilet. The owner really puts in the effort. The food was good for the price, ordered on a tablet, which felt like magic, and breakfast from the buffet was good too. There's a big pool, though we didn't use it.

The bed was comfortable, the shower roomy, and the water hot. I couldn't hear highway noise. It's a convenient place to stop and rest on the way to vacation, right by the highway, and good value. The facilities are old and not very attractive, but everything worked fine.

The room was nice, and I liked getting into the doors with codes instead of a key. WiFi worked well. There was one double duvet, and without shower curtains the whole bathroom got wet. Breakfast was a bit poor.
