Holiday Inn Paris - Montmartre by IHG

We paid around $250 a night, which felt expensive for such a small room. Even the largest room they had was cramped and crowded with too much furniture. The staff were friendly and helpful, though, and breakfast was perfect. The location was decent, about a 15-minute walk to the metro and the nice parts of Montmartre.

The room had lots of useful touches: a kettle and fridge, robes, an iron and board, a hairdryer, and enough wardrobe space for a couple of nights. The bed was very comfortable, and the Dove toiletries smelled nice. There was a full-length mirror behind the door, but that spot had no light, and there wasn't one by the desk, so I had to do my hair and makeup in the bathroom. The gap between the bed and desk was a squeeze, though that's city-center Paris for you. We didn't try breakfast, so I can't comment on it. Boris bakery nearby had delicious pastries, and we also had good food at Petit Tresor Indian restaurant on rue Damremont, where the server was lovely and helpful. The location was great and reception staff were friendly. There were water bottles in the fridge, but we weren't sure if they were complimentary and had our own, so we didn't drink them.

Across the road there's one of the best Moroccan restaurants we've ever eaten at. The hotel itself is well placed on the edge of Montmartre, with several metro lines easy to reach, and for Paris prices the location and amenities make it good value. The staff were really welcoming and let us check in early. Our room was comfortable, though small by Paris standards. There's no air conditioning, but the window opened wide and the weather wasn't too hot. If it were over 30°C, I imagine it could feel stuffy.

As a woman traveling alone, I stayed in eight hotels in France, and this was the only one that turned into a complete nightmare. After I complained to IHG Corporate, a staff member crossed into my personal space and looked through the chat history on my private phone without permission. When I asked for an apology, the Duty Manager called me “selfish” for standing up for my rights. During cleaning, staff also threw away important paper documents of mine, and the hotel has given no explanation, follow-up, or apology. I have video of these interactions and have started legal proceedings over the privacy breach and loss of my belongings. The process in France has been very slow and exhausting for me as a foreigner, and four months of stress have already passed. I moved to Best Western Plus Opéra Batignolles, only 10 minutes away, where the staff were professional and friendly, a world of difference from this IHG property. I would avoid this hotel to protect your rights and peace of mind.
