Hôtel de la Comète

This was the worst place I’ve ever stayed. It’s close to the métro, but only the sheets and towels were clean. Most other things were stained or dirty, and it was very noisy. The bathroom window was broken and wouldn’t close. The woman at the desk told me the WiFi was unsecured and shared with McDonals downstairs. When I complained that both the WiFi and TV weren’t working, she got defensive, sighed heavily and rolled her eyes, as if it was my problem. I found another hotel around the corner the next day and left, but was refused a refund. I’d left a couple of clothes in the room, and when I came back for them, they were gone. I argued with the desk person about having paid for the room and them removing my things. I’ve never experienced such a terrible place or staff. It doesn’t deserve even one star.

The place is rundown but charming, and the rooms are clean. The area is really convenient, though the interiors are spartan. Prices are reasonable when you can get it for under 75 euros.

I couldn’t sleep at all. Railway tracks were right outside my window, and even with it closed I heard trains every couple of minutes during the night. The soundproofing was terrible and the street was very loud. The curtains were so thin and let in so much light that they made it harder to sleep too. I also didn’t feel the area was safe.

The hotel has a working lift, which was handy, and the location is great, with the Metro across the street and a convenience store nearby. The room was basic, but the bed and linens were fine. It felt humid from the shower. We couldn’t leave the windows open because the street was loud all night, so the room got kind of hot.
